Good luck with the class. It seems like a good one to take (although I doubt you'll use much C, it is still a good language to learn the fundamentals of programming).

I have the exact same experience. The app also opens up whole new periods of time to read that was never socially acceptable to 'read' before. For example, sitting and reading while waiting between meetings. I would never be able to pull out a book when someone was running late to a professional meeting. However, having your phone out is socially acceptable - and those 10 minute chunks add up.

Besides - when traveling or reading in bed, you no longer need a booklight!

Thanks for the summary -- nice to see pros and cons. I don't have an iPhone, yet, and so I've been pondering the advantages of Sony ebook over Kindle -- and the advantages of both over printed monographs. If you get a Sony for review, I'd be interested in hearing your thoughtt.s

Does a body of literature exist about the rightful place of academic libraries on the campus, authored by Academic Deans, Provosts, Presidents, and non-library faculty? I am not talking about nostalgic looks backward by bibliophiles and publishers, but hard, current writing by academics.

Congratulations on your new job, Ab!
It'll be cool to work in a green building: my husband's building is the first campus center to have gold LEED certification, and it's full of nifty features. I think you should be encouraged to take the elevator: maybe it's lubricated with vegetable oil. I just wish my library had automatic sinks.

Hi Abigail,

I met you recently at the ER&L conference in Atlanta. Lori Small told me that you had a blog so I had to check it out. I love it! Just found it and added it to my Blogline. Good luck in your new position and I'll be interested to hear how it is for you.

take care,
Sheldon

(my website is a skeleton right now, as soon as the craziness of end-of-fiscal-year deadlines pass I'll be able to finish it, WordPress rules!)

Hmm, you're using http://feeds.feedburner.com/absblog ? I have tested it a few times with no problem. You should also be able to use the blog URL, http://www.abigailbordeaux.net/abs/ and most readers will pick up the feed.
